Microsoft XBox One

OneControl

Microsoft has officially announced Xbox One as its next home game console.

Xbox One will be cloud-based and is being billed as an “all-in-one” game console and home entertainment centre.

The system has an 8-core CPU, 8GB of RAM, 500GB hard drive and Blu-ray.

The controller design is similar to the current Xbox 360 controller, with an improved d-pad and force feedback for both of the shoulder triggers.

It also features a battery that rests flush with the controller, so that it does not protrude from the back as much as the Xbox 360 controller.

The system will include a redesigned Kinect sensor, capturing video at 1080p and 60 frames per second. The new sensor can also detect new movements like wrist rotations and how the body shifts weight as it moves.

The new Kinect sensor will also be used for voice activation to turn on the system as well as instantly switching between games, movies and live television.

Xbox One Architecture uses three operating systems, including an Xbox entertainment OS, the Windows kernel, and a third that connects the two operating systems to enable instant switching between content.

A new Snap Mode will let users say “snap mode” to activate a side bar for apps like Internet Explorer and Skype. Users can browse apps in a side bar while still watching live television or movies on the majority of the screen.

The Xbox One will see 15 games released exclusively for the system during its first year.

Eight of the Xbox One exclusives will be brand new franchises, including a new title from Alan Wake developer Remedy called Quantum Break. Microsoft also confirmed Forza Motorsport 5 to be one of the exclusive titles, and that it will be available when the system launches later this year. Along with system exclusives, it was revealed that Electronic Arts will release exclusive content for FIFA 14′s Ultimate Team mode on Xbox One.

Activision will also continue its timed exclusivity deal with Microsoft for Call of Duty DLC to arrive on Xbox One before the PlayStation 4 and PC versions.

XBox One

Xbox One will launch around the world “later this year”. No exact date or price has been given.
