Happy Friday people!
Carrying on from last weeks post remembering Wolfenstein 3D, a colleague of mine said “Do you remember Duke Nukem?”, my immediate response was “Hell YEAH!”.
Back in January 1996, 3D Realms published a 3D first person shooter of a guy who came equipped with bad language, guns and a liking to strippers….who at times turned into aliens! Duke Nukem rewrote the rules when it came to gaming as it was the first game to introduce such adult themes into the gaming world.
The game has been reinvented lately on the Playstation 3 and XBox 360 but for the people growing up in the 90’s (oh those were the days) who had a Windows 95 machine with MS-DOS, they were taken to a world of 8-bit gaming heaven which, like Wolfenstein, set the bar for First Person Shooters to beat.
For those who never played the game and for those who have, I’ve got the game locked, loaded and ready to go! Click HERE to download the game as well as a DOS emulator to play it on.
Don’t say I never give you anything!
Have a good weekend.
Damn it’s been a LONG time since I’ve been blogging but oh my days I’ve got something so awesome, it’s made me wanna skip work! (not really).
Think back to 1992 – the good old days growing up for the youth born in the 80’s. The Super Nintendo and Sega Megadrive were battling it out for best console, we had Bohemian Rhapsody from a band called Queen (Lee Evans does it SO much better!) and I was a chubby school boy of 6 years old with a centre parting haircut (not the best of styles I know). Days were filled with playing computer games on my SNES and on a device not known to the youth of today – a floppy disk; a 3 1/2 inch disk which has a memory capacity of 1.44MB (I hear a “whooooo”) and when compared to today’s standards, it’s about as use as a chocolate teapot…but it did have one very very good use.
One day at school a good friend of mine gave me a disk with a game on it. He said “This games quality! Don’t let your parents see it because it’s violent and only grown ups can play it” (Oh how innocent was I?….I see your eyes rolling!). Anyway, I managed to get the disk home and started playing a game which would be the platform for all shoot-em-ups in the 90’s – Wolfenstein 3D!
Wolfenstein 3D was a series of 3 but I only played the first (and best). The game focused on William “B.J.” Blazkowicz’s attempts to escape from Castle Wolfenstein and overthrow the Nazi regime. In the first episode, Escape from Castle Wolfenstein, B.J., an Allied spy, has been captured while trying to find the plans for Operation Eisenfaust (or ‘Iron Fist’), and was imprisoned in Castle Wolfenstein. Initially armed only with a knife and a Walther P38 (obtained by overpowering the guard in his cell), B.J. tries to escape the castle prison. Taking on SS guards, he eventually finds himself face to face with head prison guard Hans Grosse aka the guy with 2 miniguns which kill you in about 12 seconds of getting to the final level!
If you never played it, sit back, relax and enjoy because here it is
Hope you have a quality weekend and I really hope I have redeemed myself for not posting a blog entry for a long time.
