Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Seven million copies of Modern Warfare 2 were sold on it's first day

Haaaaaaaaaaaaappy Monday everyone!

I don’t know if any of you know but there was a spoof a few weeks ago involving the much anticipated addition in the Modern Warfare range. When the “spoof” was noted by many gaming and technology websites, fans were going mental (me included!). However, Activision released a statement that they have no official release date of Modern Warfare 3, let alone the stage which there in regarding the development of the game.

Now I’m not one to deliver bad news….

…and I’m still not! Why would I upset my loyal followers?

On Friday at work (don’t tell my manager), I was made aware of a link from an Australian website who said Activision are planning to release a statement this month regarding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. I cross checked the news with a UK newspaper The Independent who confirmed this!

Looking at past history this is perfect timing for Activision because during the build up to Modern Warfare 2, Activision/Infinity Ward (the team which bought you Modern Warfare 2 NOT Black Ops) released a statement in April and released the game the 3rd quarter of 2009. Can we be looking at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 by September/October 2011? I sure hope so! Also, EA leaked the date of Battlefield 3 which is due to go head to head with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 – it looks like the war is on!

I’ll keep you guys posted but until then, I hope you have a great day and an even better week.

Take Care

Call of Duty: Black Ops – An Ongoing Problem?

Call of Duty: Black Ops

Call of Duty: Black Ops was the biggest selling game in 2010

Hi everyone,

The latest game in the Call of Duty franchise, Black Ops, has been causing some up roar in the gaming world since the day of it’s release. No I’m not referring to the games violence, realism or storyline but the fact that the developers Treyarch have yet to release a patch which fixes the problems in the PC and Sony PS3 format of the game.

Many gamers playing Call of Duty: Black Ops on the PC and Sony PS3 have experienced random glitches and have been thrown out of online multiplayer games (which is Call of Duty’s biggest selling point) have sent endless amount of complaints to the developers but nothing has been done…yet! Angry gamers have expressed their views directly to the publishers Activision who have released a statement a few days ago stating there will be a patch available in the near future to resolve any problems which gamers are having….I’m sorry a patch is coming 3 months after it’s release!

Personally, I’ve played and experienced the problems Sony PS3 users are facing. Call of Duty: Black Ops is an amazing game, there’s no question about that but the sheer fact that gamers are shelling out £45/$50 for a game which, lets face it, doesn’t work properly really puts a downer on such a successful franchise. I know many games have a few glitches here and there (an example being one one of my top 5 games of all time – Fallout 3) but for Activision and Treyarch to release a game which is faulty on the day of release and still is 3 months on is TOTALLY unacceptable.

Let me know if you’ve experienced any problems with Call of Duty: Black Ops!

Until next time,
Andy Singh

Microsoft Kinect “blamed for Ring of Death”

Hi everyone,

The Ring of Death

Welcome to my first blog post of 2011! I’ve recovered from my New Years celebrations (which included the birth of my cousins baby girl) and found something very interesting about the Microsoft Kinect.

I’ve been following the Microsoft Kinect since the day of release and have seen both the good and the bad sides of the device but recent stories have suggested the Microsoft Kinect device has been linked to Xbox devices being the subject of the infamous “Ring of Death”.

According to the BBC’s report, one customer’s X-Box lasted one day after plugging in his Kinect device – “We plugged it in the day we got it but only played it a few times before we got the red lights. The next day when we tried it again we still had the red rings of death and haven’t been able to use it since”.

The Microsoft Xbox 360 has been known to have the “Ring of Death” problem due to heating in the previous models but was “fixed” in the Elite and Special Edition Halo models; but for Microsoft, the problem could not have arise at such a worse time. The Kinect has been a huge success since it’s release and I hope, like many Xbox gamers, this glitch will be fixed because I feel the Kinect is a really cool device (and this is coming from a Sony Playstation fan!).

If you have a Microsoft Kinect device, have you experienced any problems? If you have, let us know.

Until next time, take care and keep gaming!

Xbox 360 Sales Overtake Flagging Wii

Hi everyone,

I found this really awesome article on the Financial Times website about Xbox 360’s dominance in the gaming industry. It turns out that sales of Microsoft’s gaming machine has overtaken front runner the Nintendo Wii after a long battle.

Hope you enjoy it!

All the best,
Andy Singh

——————————————————————————————————————————

Sales of Microsoft’s Xbox games console are rapidly overtaking the flagging Nintendo Wii, boosted by the US group’s new motion-sensing Kinect controller, according to analysts.

The Wii’s dominance of current-generation console sales is being overturned as rivals Microsoft and Sony imitate its success with easy-to-use controllers and games that appeal to a wider audience.

Ahead of official figures on Thursday from the NPD research firm, analysts at Wedbush Morgan Securities expect sales of 1.075m Xbox 360 consoles in November, up 31 per cent on a year ago, compared with 975,000 Wii sales, down 23 per cent. They expect 650,000 Sony PlayStation 3 units sold, down 8 per cent year-on-year.

“We expect strong demand for the Xbox 360 due to the successful debut [in November] for Kinect, and believe that Kinect console bundles sold especially well,” said the analysts in a note.

Microsoft launched the Kinect camera sensor on November 4 as an add-on for existing consoles but also offered it bundled with an Xbox 360 console at a special price. The company raised its original estimates of 3m Kinect sales this year globally to 5m shortly before launch and seems on target to achieve this.

It reported 1m worldwide sales after 10 days and 2.5m after 25 days. The device has been selling out – it is currently available on Amazon’s UK site, but not from Amazon in the US, where other sellers on its site are charging a premium of $100 or more for the $150 device.

The Kinect gives a boost to Microsoft’s so-called living room strategy, where the Xbox is competing with Google, Apple and others in supplying services to internet-connected “smart TVs”.

Kinect encourages the whole family to interact with the TV through gestures, accessing music, movies and services such as ESPN and Sky TV channels, as well as games.

Nintendo may be able to mount a fightback in December – US retailers have been discounting the console and it could benefit from game sales such as its popular Donkey Kong series, the inclusion of the more advanced Motion Plus controller with the Wii and red and black versions of the console.

Sony has reported sales of 4.1m of its Move controllers into retailers worldwide since its launch in September, which translates as about 2.5m sales to consumers, according to analysts.
